The mission of APASU is to increase the level of awareness and consciousness of Asians and APIA at Old Dominion University. APASU serves as the voice for ODU's APIA community by working in collaboration with other organizations and cultures.
Events: 2016-2017
Board Game Night
​
This event allowed new and old members of APASU to meet, chat, and play board games with one another.

A.C.E. Mixer
Anh Chi Em Program (Big/Little)
​
A mixer which allowed members to meet and greet potential bigs/littles/siblings. It included a "speed dating" portion, in which members could speak with other members, and a game of charades. Bigs also had the chance to formally introduce themselves.
Bowling Mixer
A bowling social co-hosted by APASU, FASA, and JASA that brought members from each organization together for a night of socializing over bowling games, both competitive and just for fun.
Karaoke Night

Everyone knows that Asians love to karaoke all night long; we all have suffered from family parties with endless amounts of singing, jamming, and at times, screaming. But when it comes down to it, Karaoke Nights are always tons and tons of fun! Therefore, APASU hosted a night for members to sing their heart out and meet new friends!
A.C.E. Revelation
Anh Chi Em Program (Big/Little)

A night dedicated to revealing the Bigs to their Littles. This is a night for Bigs and Littles to meet, and get to know each other officially, as well as hang out with other fellow members and individuals who are a part of the same family.
Halloween Costume Contest
​
APASU hosts their first Halloween Costume Contest in which members were able to show off their creativity by dressing up and possibly win prizes!
K-Pop Workshop
​
This workshop featured APASU's very own Development Lead, Jawhaina Tomawis, as the head of choreography. Members were able to check out and master a couple of moves from famous music videos and find out why K-Pop is so popular, while having a great time with fellow APASU members at the same time.
FAPAVSA Field Day
Fall
​
An event, co-hosted along with the Filipino American Student Association (FASA) and the Vietnamese Student Association (VSA), full of sports activities and games. This event is dedicated to our members and allows them to take a break from exam, school, and just hang out with fellow members and friends.
Big and Little Social
​
An event in which bigs and littles were able to bond over games, including Jeopardy, Bingo, Charades, and Heads Up.
Holiday Potluck and White Elephant
​
Just before the start of exam week, APASU hosted a Holiday Potluck and White Elephant as the last event of the fall semester. Members were able to relax, eat good food, sing karaoke, and exchange gifts before cramming for finals.
Lunar New Year​
2017: Year of the Rooster
​
A celebration of the beginning of the new year according to the lunar calendar. APASU's hosts this event each year representing a different zodiac, and this year we celebrate the year of the fire monkey. This year's Lunar New Year included performances from Jow Ga Kung Fu, and the Filipino-American Student Association (FASA), and the Hawaiian performance of the Halau Kahealani. Other organziations helped us with arts and crafts, including the Chinese Culture and Language Club (CCLC).

Hair Covering is practiced in various cultures and religions all over the world!! What does a hair covering say about someone? Can you identify the person by their hair covering? This event looked at various hijab, turban, and tichel styles! The event covered whether or not it is offensive to cover your hair if you don't do it for religious, cultural, or medical reasons. The answer is no, it is not offensive, or cultural appropriation
APASUble Match
Valentine's Day Workshop

A Valentine's Day Workshop in which members were able to participate in games designed for singles and couples. Games included Newspaper Dance, Getting Pocky with Pretzels, Cupid, and How Well Do You Know Your Partner?
ECAASU
East Coast Asian American Student Union: Raleigh, NC
​
This year's conference was held in Raleigh, NC, hosted by Duke University, North Carolina State University, and the University of North Carolina. The conference is a two-day event that includes guest speakers, workshops, performances, and a gala. During ECAASU 2017: Atmosphere, a space to understand the social climate around us and the impact that we can have on society was provided. It focused on ideas of identity and intersectionality, especially in regards to underrepresented voices in our communities.
Pfranks Fundraiser

A fundraiser in which members of APASU went and bonded through dinner at Pfranks.
Streetfood Workshop
​
What's one thing that a lot of people have in common? The love for food. If you have ever visited an Asian country, you will most likely recall foods sold in the streets, so why not bring some of those foods to ODU? APASU has set up this event in order to embrace culture and diversity through food. Members got to learn about each of the food items that were brought and where they come from.
Asian Game Night
​
A workshop which allowed members to play some fun games inspired by the Asian culture. Games such as "Harisen and Helmet Rock Paper Scissor," "Red Light, Green Light with a Twist," and "Lipreading Game with Headphones" were played.
Multicultural Night
​
Multicultural Night is the night where APASU brings other organizations to represent a diverse community in Old Dominion University.
This night has been filled with several fun games, raffle prizes, and performances from organizations, such as the Filipino American Student Association and WEPA.
Relay for Life
​
Relay For Life is an annual event held at Old Dominion University that is sponsored by Colleges Against Cancer (CAC)that involves all student organizations on campus. Relay for Life is dedicated in raising funds for cancer research by providing and showing support for survivors and those who have lost their lives.
​
APASU joined in the fundraising this year through the sale of donuts, pork sticks, and cake pops.
Members Retreat
Eastern Shore, VA
​
A weekend which allowed members to bond with one another, especially over activities, such as Circle of Connectedness, Secrets, and Paranoia. E-board members who lost the Penny Wars for Relay for Life also participated in a "Relay of Punishments."
Yellow Tulip
​
After over 2 years, APASU brought back the Yellow Tulip event. Yellow tulips symbolize hope and cheerful thoughts, which is fitting because the event is an end-of-the-year semi-formal that brought our members together to end the year off. It was dedicated to recapture special moments within the organization and with the members, as well as award superlatives and special members who made a change in the org. This semi-formal also announced the Executive Board for the year 2017-2018.
