Lunar New Year
2016: Year of the Monkey
​

A celebration of the beginning of the new year according to the lunar calendar. APASU's hosts this event each year representing a different zodiac, and this year we celebrate the year of the fire monkey. This year's Lunar New Year included performances from Jow Ga Kung Fu, and the Filipino-American Student Association (FASA), and the Hawaiian performance of the Halau Kahealani. Other organziations helped us with arts and crafts, including the Chinese Culture and Language Club (CCLC).

Multicultural Night
And J.A.S.A. Aki Matsuri
​

Multicultural Night is the night where APASU brings other organizations to represents a diverse community in Old Dominion University. This night was in collaboration with the Japanese American Student Association and their Aki Matsuri.

 

This night has been filled with several fun games, raffle prizes, and performances from the local community, as well as ODU's local dance group, 4NR.

ECAASU 2016
East Coast Asian American Student Union Conference: Rutgers, N.J.
 

This year's conference was held in Rutgers, N.J. and was hosted by Rutgers University. This year's theme was Beyond Our Boundaries: To emphasize AAPI history and to use the lessons to empower students. Your Cause meaning that attendees were to find their passion and be champions for their particular cause. ECAASU typically is a three-day conference consisting of workshops, speakers, performances, career fair, and networking. This year, ECAASU brought performers like Nutting' But V.O.C.A.L, Jenny Yang, The Society, and more! 

A.C.E. Revelation
Anh Chi Em Program (Big/Little)

A night dedicated to revealing the Bigs to their Littles. This is a night for Bigs and Littles to meet, and get to know each other officially, as well as hang out with other fellow members and individuals who are a part of the same family. 

 

This year's theme is Blues Clues in Candyland. Littles are given clues to find their bigs.

FAPASU Field Day
Spring

An event, co-hosted along with the Filipino American Student Association (FASA), full of sports activities and games. This event is dedicated to our members and allows them to take a break from exam, school, and just hang out with fellow members and friends.

Hair Cover Workshop
​

Hair Covering is practiced in various cultures and religions all over the world!! What does a hair covering say about someone? Can you identify the person by their hair covering? This event will be looking at various hijab, turban, and tichel styles! The event covers whether or not it is offensive to cover your hair if you don't do it for religious, cultural, or medical reasons. The answer is no, it is not offensive, or cultural appropriation.

A volunteer opportunity that we took our members to located at the Norfolk Botanical Garden! We served hot cocoa's to children and their families for Polar Express and guide the guess in the Million Bulb Walk. It was a fun volunteer opportunity!

Language Workshop
​

A workshop that allowed our members to learn different langauges varying from Vietnamese to Tagalog, to Chinese to Thai. With the help of our fellow members who spoke the languages fluently, our members were able to learn a thing or two about phrases that vary for each language.

Love Bingo

It's the time for Valentine's Day and to spend it with your special someone!But are YOU in a healthy relationship? Can you spot the red flags?? Our Romance Workshop (cosponsored with the Women's Center) will touch upon healthy relationships, healthy sexual relationships, and self-love. The event will have a Love Bingo theme to make it more interesting!
